Using appropriate molecular techniques, genetic markers can be linked to important agronomic traits. Qualitative or single genetic loci controlling traits like disease resistance and quantitative trait loci (QTL) controlling complex traits such as plant yield or height can be identified and successively used as MAS to expedite plant breeding efforts. Marker saturated genetic maps can be constructed to depict the genome by assessing the genetic variability, early selection, DNA fingerprinting and the position of significantly important genes.
